This article provides an ‘Introduction into the Scrum Project Roles’ and looks to discuss the different roles that are involved in an Agile Scrum Project.
Scrum Master – 3 pillars
In agile, a Scrum Master follows three pillars of transparency, inspection, and adaption.
Pillar 1 is Transparency
Transparency involves open communication with all members of the Scrum project team, and the Scrum Master proudly displays their team’s burn-down charts where everyone can see.
Pillar 2 is Inspection
As part of the inspection, the scrum team review how well they did during the sprint. This is known as the Sprint Review.
Pillar 3 is Adoption
As scrum is an iterative process, adaption to change is one of the advantages of adopting the Agile values and principles and is a key characteristic of a scrum master. They must champion change.

User Stories Applied by Mike Cohn is one of our favourite books on Agile User Stories. The book starts with an overview into user stories, and details what a user story is and the different aspects of them. He then discusses how to go about writing a user story, and provides details of the INVEST criteria that can be used to determine if the story is meeting all of its objectives. Next Mike gives an in depth discussion of who user stories are written for and where to begin when gathering the details for them. The book then discusses acceptance testing user stories, including how to go about specifying these criteria and the responsibilities of the development team and customers during this process.
